Frequently Asked Questions
What is a TubCut conversion?
TubcuT is a permanent bathtub conversion that removes a portion of the front tub wall and recreates a step-in, easy entry and exit for your existing bathtub, making it easier to use and enjoy.
Who can benefit from a TubcuT conversion?
- Anyone with mobility issues
- Anyone having had or requiring knee, hip or back surgery
- Anyone having trouble lifting their leg
- Anyone with balance issues when attempting to use their own bathtub
How long does it take to convert my tub?
Installation takes about half a day from start to finish. Your tub can be fully used and enjoyed the next morning.
I don’t want a bunch of construction in my home!
The TubcuT is installed by one person in about five (5) hours. No crew or big mess.
Your bathroom is wrapped with plastic sheeting to minimize dust, and surfaces are wiped down upon completion of the job. There will be about 15-20 minutes of noise while the actual cutting is done, and a shop vacuum cleans the air and debris while the technician is working.
Does the Tubcut reduce the bathing area in my tub?
We only remove from 18 up to 36 inches of width from the side of the tub to provide easier access. A shower curtain is then used to catch shower spray contained in the bathing area as it is now.
How much of a step up does the TubcuT leave for me?
Usually, the conversion leaves about 4 inches. This is the same height as a shower pan if you had a shower installed; however, every tub is different, and we can modify it to meet the specifications of almost any tub.
I have never seen this type of thing before. Is it new?
Only to the Gulf Coast. TubcuT has been around since the early 2000s but primarily in the Northeast.
Senior Home Safety Products is a senior-owned, local franchise who started doing bathtub conversion in 2019.
How much does the TubcuT cost to install?
Average installation starts at $1,500 for a standard, 18″-wide conversion to a fiberglass bathtub. If you have a metal or cast-iron tub, it is slightly more expensive due to time and added cutting technique. Out-of-town customers may also incur some travel expenses.
I don’t have a standard tub; mine is an oval garden tub.
Not a problem! We have kits available for thicker walled, deeper and larger bathtubs.
What if I go to sell my home in the future?
The TubcuT could very well be a positive selling point if selling to another senior. If they have children or prefer a standard bathtub, the TubcuT can be reversed for about half the installation cost in about four (4) hours.
I need grab rails by my tub to hold on to. Can you do that?
Senior Home Safety Products can help address almost any safety issue in and around your home. We can add grab handles next to or inside your tub, hang a new shower rod or curtain, replace your toilet with a 17-inch, high-seated toilet and even put grab rails next to that if needed. We replace fixed shower heads with hand-held units and can add a lower shower head mount for easier reach if seated while showering.
Do permits have to be pulled or inspections made for the work to be done?
NO! Because we are not replacing in-wall tubing or wiring, no permits are required for standard TubcuT installations or toilet replacement.
I don’t want some high-pressure salesperson trying to sell me something I’m not sure I need.
Our business is working with seniors, and we are sensitive to your needs as well as your financial situation.
Our representatives will simply inspect your tub and demonstrate where and how our different products might be helpful in making your bathroom or other areas safer for you. We have bathroom photos of other local residents we have helped. We always allow 3-to-5 days for you to review the purchase and talk to family or others before we complete the installation. We never take a deposit up front, so you risk nothing calling for a home review of our product. Sometimes, the TubcuT is not the answer for your mobility issues. If we can’t make your home safer and more enjoyable for you to live in, or if our product is not for you, we promise not to pressure you to get it.
